Fiction Writing Workshop
Beginning September 24, the Haverhill Corner Library will sponsor a six-week fiction writing workshop. Sessions will be held on Thursdays from 7:00 – 8:30 PM at the library. In each session, we will examine a writing topic and we will discuss work submitted by participants.
Registration $125; limit 10 participants.
Thursday, September 24: The Big Picture
Narrative; synopsis; reading & writing; novels & stories; genres; generating ideas; writing habits.
Thursday, October 1: Voice
First person; third person limited; third person omniscient; strengths and limitations of each.
Thursday, October 8: Character and Dialogue
Creating and revealing character; establishing character with dialogue; advancing the story with dialogue.
Thursday, October 15: Plot
To outline or not to outline?; building daramtic tension; pacing.
Thursday, October 22: Editing and Rewriting
Sentences and their use; editing yourself; starting over.
Thursday, October 29: Publishing & the Writing Life
What do with your work when it’s finished.
Registration fees will benefit the Haverhill Corner Library.
About the instructor: John Landrigan worked for seventeen years in book publishing as an acquisitions editor and marketer, editing both fiction and non-fiction. He is coauthor of three novels and a trustee of the New Hampshire Writers’ Project.
