The library will host an author tea with acclaimed mystery novelist Jane K. Cleland on Sunday, April 15. Cleland is the author of the Josie Prescott Antiques Mysteries, which are set in New Hampshire and have been hailed as "Antiques Roadshow for mystery fans." The tea will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Susan Brown's Rock Creek Farm on Route 10 north of Haverhill Corner. Catering will be provided by Janice Robinson, and admission will be $10, to benefit the library.
Cleland's popular series features antiques appraiser Josie Prescott, who operates an antiques store and auction house in fictional Rocky Point, New Hampshire. The first volume in the series, Consigned to Death, has been selected by Library Journal as one of twenty-two "core titles" recommended for libraries seeking to build their collections in cozy mysteries. The Josie Prescott books are "packed with antique lore, complex characters, and intricate plots," says Library Journal.
Cleland has just published her seventh mystery in the series, Dolled Up for Murder, which has already been praised by Publishers Weekly for "action [that] builds to a seamless and fitting conclusion."
In addition to her novels, Cleland has also published short stories in Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine, where she has a new story scheduled for this summer. Her books have been bestsellers for the bookstores of the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association. She has served on the national board of the Mystery Writers of America and is past president of its New York City chapter. She is on the faculty of Manhattanville College's Master of Arts in Writing program and has taught writing at MIT.

Books & Music Holiday Dessert Tea
Join us on Saturday, December 10 for a refreshing break from the holiday bustle. The library will sponsor a Books & Music Holiday Dessert Tea, generously hosted by Mary and Bill Emig at the General John Montgomery Homestead.
Stop by between 3:00 and 5:00 PM to relax and recharge with tea, coffee, and holiday desserts in the calming atmosphere of this beautifully restored 18th-century home. In addition, you'll be able to pick up gift ideas for the book lovers on your list by browsing displays of titles that have been recommended by library staff, trustees, and friends.
Admission is by donation to benefit the Haverhill Corner Library, with a suggested donation of $8.00.

Book Sale!
The Haverhill Corner Library will hold its annual book sale on Saturday, September 10 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. As usual, the sale will be held on the lawn in front of the library, and all sales will be "by donation."
Our patrons have been very generous with book donations this year, so we will have a large selection of fiction, non-fiction, children's books, videos, and other materials. We will also have light refreshments available.

Author Luncheon with John Walters
The library will hold an author luncheon featuring writer and broadcaster John Walters on Saturday, May 21 from noon to 2:00 at Alumni Hall.
Walters is the author of Roads Less Traveled: Visionary New England Lives, published last year by Plaidswede Press. Roads Less Traveled is a collection of portraits of extraordinary New Englanders, from artists, actors, and musicians to scientists, crafters, and activists. One of those profiled is Haverhill's own Betty Johnson.
Walters is also well known as the former host of "The Front Porch" on New Hampshire Public Radio.
The luncheon will feature asparagus and spring mix salad with vinaigrette, cold poached salmon with fresh herb aioli, marinated mushrooms, and new potato salad, and for dessert, orange crepe with strawberries and rhubarb, and vanilla ice cream.
The luncheon is a fund-raiser for the library. Tickets are $35 apiece or $60 for a pair. Call the library to reserve your ticket.

Was it Earlene Grey, Rose T. Cups, or perhaps Lady Tipton? Rumors run rampant! Suspicion lurks behind every word and in every glance! You are invited to help solve this mystery by attending our High Tea on Tuesday, August 3, where the culprit will be exposed with your help.
Join us as we dine on peach scones accompanied with devon crème, lemon curd and peach jam. Next, we’ll sample an array of finger sandwiches -- cucumber, ham & mustard on rye and pannetone bread with strawberry cream cheese. Finally, we'll feast on fine pastries, lemon bars, madelines, and chocolate truffles. Enjoy an array of Darjeelings and a seasonal herbal tea as the mystery unfolds!
